  • Mr Pools Elite move home venue and change name
  • Highest break edges it way up again

Mr Pools get their second win of the season when beating Bergholt A 4-2, Craig Ford drew with Chris Walne in the first, a great safety battle which Walne came out the victor of the two, but it was Ford who took the next, and making a 37 break in the process. The next match was between Martin Reynolds and Darren White, neither player could find form and it was Reynolds who grabbed the two points to make it 3-1 to the home side. The last match was a draw between Richard Alcock and Jimmy McDaide, .McDaide struggled in the first frame and even though getting a 21 start ,lost going into the colours, but that was to change for the player in the second, Mcdaide pulled away at the start, but Alcock pulled back to be 19 behind, but after a poor safety shot from the home player, McDaide strung together an impressive 34 break to take the final frame

Bergholt C hosted Mersea A in last nights match, where it ended all square at 3-3, Danny Collinson gets more points on the board with a 2-0 win over John Blackmore to get the home side off to a good start, but last years runner up on the player league table Tony Madden, pulled form to beat Bergholt Captain Ian Chatten to pull the match level. In the final match a draw was played out when Colin Blakemore and Chris Green drew one frame a piece.

League leaders Bergholt B fail to win for the first time this season but still maintain the unbeaten run when drawing with the Sportsman 3-3, Myles Spankie got the home side off to a flyer when beating on form Colin Whittle 2-0, The match was then draw level when Sportsman player Darren Bloomfield beat Glenn Sibbons 2-0 to bring the match level going into the final frames of the evening. That match was between Dave Jones and Tom Stannard where a hard fought game ended all square.

Mr Pools Elite, have now changed home venue and name. They will now be called Con Club Elite, and play out of the Con Club just off of the high Street in Colchester. Last night they played high flying Mersea B where yet again another draw was in order, all matches ended 1-1 between Paul Emery v Ashley Troath, Dave Green .v Stu Byford and Jack Woodley v Chris Cass

  • Bergholt B hit the magic 6 in a top of the table clash
  • Sportsman get a win at the seaside
  • Bergholt Derby draw

Con Club Elite get their first win of the season when beating Mr Pools 4-2, Wins for Stuart Byford over M Reynolds and Chris Cass over Craig Ford get some much need points and now lifts them to 5th in the table

Bergholt B hit the magic 6, in their demolition of second placed Mersea B, wins for Glenn Sibbons over Paul Emery, Myles Spankie over Dave Green, and finishing the job off was Dave Jones who beat Jack Woodley, another fine win sees them create an 8 point gap at the top with just a couple of games to go in this section.

The Sportsman move into second place behind Bergholt B with an away win on the coast to Mersea A, There were draws between Tony Madden v Colin Whittle and Chris Green v Tom Stannard, so all level going into the final match, where John Blackmores poor run of luck is still haunting him, he lost the last 2 frames to inform Darren Bloomfield who has been putting in some good performances so far this season. The Sportsman leap above Mersea B and sit nicely in second spot.

The first Bergholt Derby for A and B ended all square, with all matches being drawn between Danny Collinson v Jimmy McDaide, Colin Blakemore v Chris Walne and Ian Chatten v Darren White. The draw see Bergholt A in joint 3rd a point behind second spot, and Bergholt C still bottom but with a game in hand to be played in the bye week against Mr Pools

Week 6 Section 1

This weeks news:

  • Mr Pools win away from home
  • Bergholt B Win again
  • Sportsman beat Bergholt A

Bergholt B still lead the way at the top of the table, last nights win sees then hold a 8 point gap leading into the last match of the first section. Another 6-0 was on the cards for the inform team when Glenn Sibbons and Myles Spankie both score victories over Danny Collinson and Ian Chatten, The double six nil celebrations was put on hold when Dave Jones was beaten by Colin Blakemore to give the away side some much needed points.

Mr Pools travelled to Mersea B in their match last night and came away with a 4-2 win, Richard Alcock came from 45 points down in the first frame with 3 breaks over 20, and played steady enough to clinch the second over Dave Green. But the 2-0 lead was soon to disappear in the next match, with a scrappy affair between Jack Woodley and Craig Ford was contested with Woodley getting both points. The last match was between Paul Emery and Martin Reynolds, where the away player found a little form after last weeks disaster frames, winning 2-0 giving the away side victory.

The Sportsman hold on to second spot when beating Bergholt A 4-2, a win for Dave Toms over Steve Phillips got the home side off to a good start, then draws in the other matches between Colin Whittle v Chris Walne and Darren Bloomfield v Jimmy McDaide clinches a 4-2 win.

Week 7 Section 1

This weeks news:

  • Bergholt B gets Spanked by Mr Pools
  • Bergholt A Smash Elite for 6
  • Sportsman hammered by Bergholt C
  • Mersea A destroy Mersea B in Derby

Bergholt B sufferd their first defeat of the season to the hands of Mr Pools when losing 5-1. Richard Alcock won his two frames in a safety battled match against Glenn Sibbons to give the away side a 2-0 lead. The next match saw Dave Jones giving a 35 start to Martin Reynolds which wasn’t to be over turned in either frame, Reynolds potted well , and was 30 points ahead coming into the colours in both matches. The last frames saw in form and Birthday boy Myles “Niknak it’s a plane it’s a plane” Spankie (look it up lol) play Craig Ford. The first match was tight even though Spankie was always ahead, as for the second the rolls reversed and Ford got the 21 start he had to give Spankie back within a couple of visits, but the shot of the night went to Myles, when snookered on the brown and pink was over the black right hand pocket, Spankie swerved around the Blue hitting the brown which then sent the cue ball towards the pink, catching the jaw of the pocket first and knocking the pink to within a millimetre of the drop and the cue ball resting in the jaws of the pocket, Despite the efforts from Spankie, Ford claimed the last frame to end in a draw…….in an interview with Myles Spankie after the match he said and I quote” To be honest I have very tired shoulders carrying the other two!!, its about time Jones and Sibbons pulled their finger out” ☺ Spankie leads the players table only dropping two frames in this section . Happy birthday Niknak

Bergholt C jump up the table and still have a game in hand. They put the Sportsman to the sword last night when winning 5-1. Danny Collinson got them off to a good start when beating Dave Toms 2-0, next up was the clash of the big handicaps when Colin Blakemore and Tom Stannard met in the next match with the score ending one a piece, the final match was between Ian Chatten and Colin Whittle, where Chatten who hasn’t won for a week or so picks up both points. (PP match against Mr Pools to be played in bye Week)

Bergholt A showed some excellent for and smashing the Elite team for 6 in last nights match, Jimmy Mcdaide beat Stu Byford, Darren White beat Chris Day, and finally Chris Walne beat Chris Cass to give them maximum points. The win sees them jump up into second spot 6 points behind the current leaders Bergholt B

The seaside derby bragging rights are firmly with Mersea A for now as they destroy Mersea B 5-1, Tony Madden carries on his undefeated run when he beat Jack Woodly 2-0, John Blackmore finally turns the table and gets his first points of the season when beating Paul Emery, the final match was beaten the brothers Green, was a hard fought match ending honours even. Week 8 Section 1

This weeks news:

  • Elite hammer Mr Pools
  • Mersea B get a convincing win over Bergholt A
  • Points shared between Mersea A and Bergholt C
  • Sportsman hit top of the table Bergholt B(Mr Pools B) for 6

After losing 5-1 to Mr Pools last time out, the newly formed Mr Pools B start the next section with further disappointment when getting slammed for 6 points by The Sportsman, Wins for Tom Stannard over Dave Jones, Lee Driver over Myles Spankie and Darren Bloomfield over Glenn Sibbons sees the Sportsman jump up to second spot. Even with this crushing defeat Mr Pools B stay top by two points

Fellow Mr Pools team also had a torrid time when playing on their new table and not getting off to a good start either, Richard Alcock again not finding the pockets when losing to Ashley Troath 2-0, Martin Reynolds was the next to fall to Chris Day, you would have to say Reynolds was unlucky to lose the second frame, when coming into the colours 20 ahead, a miss on the brown cost him badly with Day mopping up the colours to pipping Reynolds over the line. When being 4-0 down you hope to have someone up next that could save you from the white wash, as luck would have it Mr Pools had that man, and having lost to his opponent in this tie last time Ford was up for the re-match against very good player in Chris Cass, Cass had a bit more run in the first and the frustrated Ford found himself 1-0 down and his team 5-0 down, but determination of not having the white wash showed in the last, he pulled the handicap back quickly not letting Cass get away and then soon took a convincing lead which in the end was to give him the frame and draw this match level at 1-1 This defeat sees Mr Pools slip to 4th and Elite close the gap on the pack

Bergholt A also slip down the table when losing heavily to Mersea B, Steve Phillips bad run continued when he was beaten by Paul Emery 2-0, in the next saw Royston Moodie get the same from Dave Green to give the away side a 4-0 win, was there to be another 6-0 on the cards for the evening…..the last was contested between Darren White and Jack Woodley where Bergholt A halted the drumming with this match ending one a piece

Tony Madden continues to be unbeaten when Mersea A welcomed Bergholt C to the seaside, it was Madden to start the evening against Ian Chatten, where a hard fought draw took place, next up saw Paul Falltrick lose 2-0 to Colin Blakemore who in turn knocked in a very nice 38 break, in the last saw Chris Green bring the match back level when beating inform Darren Collinson and making it 3-3

Week 9 Section 2

This weeks news:

  • Mr Pools Slump to yet another hammering
  • Bergholt C win over Bergholt A
  • Elite and Mr Pools B stalemate
  • Mersea B beat last weeks 6 nil hitters

Mr Pools a slump yet again when losing to Mersea A 5-1, Tony Madden was to continue his undefeated run in the first match against Craig Ford, Madden won the first, but Ford struck the home side back level by winning a closely contested second, but the score was then dramatically tipped in the way of the visitors as Martin Reynolds played Chris Green, Reynolds giving Green a 21 start should have won the first, missing out on valuable points when missing two reasonably easy Blues and a Black that would have certainly brought him in with a chance, Green settled down and took the second in a rather scrappy match. With the 3-1 lead John Blakemore came to the table for the away side to try to get the visitors victory when he played Richard Alcock, after a very too and fro first frame, Blackmore came good especially after last week mistake when potting the Brown thinking it was a Red, when he took a long Blue into the Yellow pocket with a lot of screw on the cue ball bringing it back towards the Black spot to come nicely on the Pink, a great shot which was good enough to clinch the first, in the second some more shaky stuff from Alcock although still in it coming into the colours, just needing Green to Pink to win, he missed a very simple pot to the centre leaving the balls in a good position for Blackmore to clear to the pink to win.

After last weeks good win against Mr Pools , Con Club Elite were to play Mr Pools B last night where it ended all square, Dave Jones got back to winning ways when beating Stu Byford 2-0, Chris Day was then to pull the match back level when he beat Glenn Sibbons by the same score. In the final match Ashley Troath and Myles Spankie ended one a piece and ending the match 3-3

Bergholt B jump a place or two when beating Bergholt A 4-2 last night. Darren Collinson keeps picking the points up recently and continued that when drawing with an inform Chris Walne 1-1, in the next Colin Blakemore took Steve Phillips to the sword by beating the minus handicapper 2-0, in the last Captain Ian Chatten made sure of the win when drawing with Jimmy McDaide, the win takes them to second in the table.

Mersea B claim a good win over last weeks big 6 winners the Sportsman when winning 4-2, Paul Emery beat Colin Whittle 2-0, it was then draws between Jack Woodley v D Toms, and Dave Green v Darren Bloomfield, the win sees Mersea B move up to 5th in the table.

Week 10 Section 2

This weeks news:

  • Mr Pools stop the rot with a draw
  • Bergholt C go joint top
  • Two matches cancelled
  • Elite Name change and venue change…….again ☺

In a very hard fought match, Mr Pools get themselves a draw against the Sportsman after two big defeats in the first two matches of this section, Richard Alcock drew with Colin Whittle, in the next Craig Ford was still had a chance in the first against Tom Stannard coming into the final pink and black, Ford missed the pot leaving Stannard a reasonably easy pink into the yellow pocket, he missed, wobbled in the jaws and slowly trundled towards the green pockets, it was if it was in slow motion, it seemed to stop right on the very edge, and as you were about to take a deep breath it fell giving Stannard the frame, Ford didn’t seem to recover from there and lost the second too. Martin Reynolds was stripped of 14 points off his handicap when he did well in the first section, having worked on his cueing prior to the game it all seemed to come good for the player from Clacton as he beat Darren Bloomfield in a close match 2-0

Top of the table Mr Pools B suffer another defeat in this section when losing to Bergholt C 4-2 , Darren Collinson drew with Myles Spankie, Ian Chatten beat Glen Sibbons, and Colin Blakemore drew with Dave Jones, Jones beating his highest break by one point which now stands at 47. The win now see these two teams top of the table.

Message for you all from Sir Ian Chatten….

I have spoken to Chris Day, they won’t now be playing from the Conservative club but will indeed be now playing for West Bergholt the fixtures will stay the same but they will have a name change and hence forth be known as West Bergholt B.

Week 11 Section 2

This weeks news:

  • Mr Pools B end up Christmas number 1
  • Mersea A Stuff some Christmas turkeys
  • Points wrapped up for Bergholt A
  • Bergholt C and Sportsman (Out doing Christmas shopping instead)

Mr Pools B have the Christmas number one spot for 2016 along with a 4 point gap, The evening didn’t start well for the home side when Myles Spankie lost to Paul Emery 2-0, but that lead was to disappear in the next two matches. Dave Jones seems to be the only player so far to be able to make a break over 40, which is different to last years haul of high breaks throughout the premier league players, he made his third of the season with a 44, in a match against Dave Green and levelling the match 2-2, the final game saw team captain Glenn Sibbons bring the bacon home when he beat Jack Woodley. After comments made by Spankie after the 5-1 defeat to Mr Pools earlier this year, Sibbons commented that “ We pulled Myles through the match tonight, he really needs to pull his socks up if we are to maintain our current position, I have man flu and I still managed to pull out a performance, its about time he did too”…….the banter between the team continues ☺

Bergholt A close the gap on the group when beating Mr Pools 4-2, Jimmy McDaide beat Richard Alcock 2-0 in the first. The next between Darren White and Craig Ford was a close affair, Ford giving away a 21 start, pulled within shooting distance when making a 28 break, but was unfortunate to double kiss a red on a safety shot later in the frame with White making enough points to give him a lead when coming into the colours. The next fame was similar to the first but Ford got himself ahead and that’s how it stayed to make the match 3-1, in the last Chris Walne got ahead, but found himself tied up in snookers in the first frame and getting out of all of them, claiming the frame, in the next Reynolds potted reasonably well, but the stitching up of Walne continued, a great pot on the pink into the yellow bag was enough to earn a 1-1 draw.

In the last match of the night Mersea A got a present from the newly formed Bergholt B (Elite) when the away side could only field 2 players. A hard fought game between Tony Madden and Alice Day saw both frames going to the Black ball, Day winning the first then fouling to give the frame to Madden in the second. Madden remains unbeaten for 2016. In the second saw Chris Green play Ashley Troath where Green was the victor.
